I read a trilogy in the summer of 1990. I can not rememebr the name of the series the author ...anything. What I do remember is:
main character was a black smith. worked for a god or powerful being. freed himself. had great talent. fell in love with another god or powerful being. he tried to keep her and forge silver rings or "shackles" which had great power. She recognized the power in them and placed them around his knees. He ended up forging or building a set of wings the drew power from the sun.
The setting from what i remember is a world at the end of an ice age. whole city had moved south as the ice advanced. The name of a city or country started with "Kendo....." something fair long.
The series ends with the smith freeing himself fromthe shackles, the ice age starting to end....I thought the main titles of the books had something to do with seasons......still searching. let me know if you can help
