i just talked with a friend who is very disappointed about her experiences with some reading-clubs in Toronto. she said, that in Toronto’s reading-clubs they don`t care about authors like Tolstoy, Goethe, Zola, Rilke, Chekhov, Holderlin, Flobert,… she said, they just read books which were originally written in English.
i can’t believe that, because there are a lot of very good English translations of very, very good authors which are really worth to read and to discuss about. but perhaps i am wrong…
so my question is: are in Toronto some reading-clubs who also have European literature in their programs?
thank you for your response – and please excuse my rusty English…
